Restaurateur, raw food enthusiast and mother of two, Jenny Ross, is the driving force behind Orange County’s raw food movement. From her restaurants, 118 Degrees, located in Costa Mesa, Anaheim and Laguna Niguel to her RAWbar line of fresh food in Whole Foods Market as well as her book, RAW Basics, one thing is clear: Ross is pioneering a way of life for many OC residents. Pairing her successful business with being an active parent is not always easy, but Ross has found some secrets to keeping sane: flexibility, laughter and friends.
“Whenever the business grows to the next step, it has different needs; the same goes with my kids. So, it’s about being flexible from week to week and allowing the schedule to shift and change how it needs to.” She also believes that a giggle here and there with her two kids helps remind her of the silver lining in any situation. “Laughing with my children is the greatest gift. They have truly taught me to take time to laugh and to see that there is always joy underneath even the hard parts of life and business.”
For moms who aspire to start their own businesses, Ross advises, “Remember that it’s not always going to be perfect ... Preparation is key but don’t be afraid to get moving and live into the business.”
