The irony in natural and holistic living is that for most, it doesn’t come naturally at all. Enter Christy Funk and her business, Belly Sprout. Frustrated at the lack of holistic and eco-friendly stores in Orange County, she created her store, Belly Sprout. More than a place to find eco-frienely products, it’s a community for like-minded families, providing resources and products to guide them toward a more natural lifestyle. “I knew there were other mothers out there who not only wanted natural products for their families, but the education through classes as well”.
Since becoming the premier community resource for natural living and education, Funk is certainly a busy lady. However, she doesn’t believe in balance, but rather taking each day as it comes. “Balance is a myth. When you have a business as a mother, you learn to navigate, as each day is different with new challenges popping up unexpectedly,” she stated. She added, “The most important thing is to have boundaries on what you will and will not do. For example, I take Sundays and Mondays off to be with my kids and I do not work on the computer after 9 p.m. … There is a fuzzy line between your passion work and your mom work, and I just have to be mindful so that I have time for both. Of course it’s my kids above anything else.”
