Q: [Parents] I’m considering going back to school to get a better job, but I know it’s going to take away from family time, and the thought makes me feel guilty. How do I know if continuing my education/work experience is the right thing to do?
A: This is a dilemma over which many moms struggle, while feeling guilty. It’s important that you and your spouse are on the same page about you going back to school, because you’re going to need his or her support, both emotionally and physically.

Why it feels good to be good, and how it can benefit your health.
Ever notice that when you do something nice for someone it feels good? Well, there’s a logical explanation for that, and it’s commonly referred to as, “the Helper’s High.” According to researchers, behavioral therapists, neuroscientists and the like, it’s a distinct physical sensation associated with helping, or doing good deeds.
Antonia Tran from Irvine is an OC native who can identify with the phrase, “Helper’s High,” as she prides herself on her charitable doings. She has worked for such local organizations as Second Harvest Food Bank in Costa Mesa and the Boys and Girls Club, and makes it a priority to donate money, clothing, school supplies and the like to other worthy causes when she can. “I do it because I know how important it is to give back to those in need, and I want to pass on to my children to be a grateful and productive member of society,” she explains. “There’s no other feeling like the feeling of happiness that you get when you know you’ve done something selfless to help a fellow person.” While most people would agree with Tran, the question that begs to be answered is, why does it feel good to do good?
