Readers' Choice Awards 2010
Written by Melissa Evalle, Rebecca Meekma, Cindy Morgan, Allison Tong
Our eighth Readers’ Choice Awards was our biggest response yet from our readers voicing their opinions on their family favorites this year.
While the majority of our 56 categories were repeat winners, we have some new favorites this year, some of which were due to new categories we added such as Best Children’s Live Theater and Mom’s Best Hair Salon. Despite that some of our winners were repeats such as Disneyland for Best Theme Park (their eighth win in a row!), you’ll find many new picks as well—Crystal Cove State Park for Best Hiking Trail, for one. Or The Rinks Anaheim Ice for Best Ice Skating Park.
While you may already be die-hard patrons of some of our winning picks, we hope you’ll find new places to venture to or try out in this issue. We’ve also given our preferred picks for several of the categories, giving you, perhaps, alternatives to consider whether you’re taking the kids to go to the park on Saturday or out to dinner on Friday.
Congratulations to all those who made it into our Readers’ Choice Awards, and a big thanks to all of you who voted to make it happen.—Allison Tong

READERS' CHOICE: IRVINE REGIONAL PARK
Our readers once again chose Irvine Regional Park as their favorite, making it the winner in this category for the fourth consecutive year. The park is home to four softball fields, two horseshoe pits, volleyball courts and a four-mile equestrian trail. Kids love the park because it has six playgrounds, pony rides, and the Irvine Park Railroad, a 1/3-scale train ride that goes through the park. Everyone enjoys renting paddleboats and traveling around the park’s lagoon or renting bikes to pedal through beautiful scenery. There are also plenty of large picnic areas, so bring the whole family and have some fun! 1 Irvine Park Road, Orange. 714-973-6835. ocparks.com/ irvinepark.
