When I was little, I remember feeling so deflated when Christmas was over. All that build up, all the anticipation, the thrill of waking up to a sea of gifts and unwrapping them, the high of playing with all the new toys, sharing them with friends, and then…BOOM. OVER. Now I am experiencing Christmas for the first time through the eyes of a 2 year old and I have to admit, I feel the same way all over again

One of the great privileges we have as parents is giving to our children. Seeing the elated look on our children's faces when they open a present gives us a rush. But an even bigger thrill comes when our children get that same rush watching others enjoy gifts, especially ones they gave.
When the final cucumber sandwich had been crunched and the final cup of herbal tea had been sipped and the last of the guests had departed, I settled down to make an inventory of the gifts that we had received on our first, and only, baby shower. Most of the gifts fell into three categories: clothes, diapers and toys. The pirate onesie, in particular, made me smile. The tiny blue sneakers made my heart swell with joy. Everything seemed to hold so much hope and promise. Yet, as I began to compose the “Thank You” cards, I wondered which of the gifts would withstand the test of time.
