You know you have done it. Or at least thought about it.  You need to run a quick errand but your kids are asleep in the car. What do you do?  Do you really have to unbuckle both kids to drag them with you and disrupt that peaceful time they seem to be having with Mr. Sandman? Can’t you just run in real quick or will you be arrested?

I found myself in this predicament yesterday.  On the way home from a successful grocery run, I realized I forgot my most important errand. I needed to buy a rare bottle of wine as a belated wedding gift for a friend who was visiting the following morning. It was my only time to get it. Both kids were sound asleep.  What do I do?  Can I leave them for just a few minutes to run in? If I can see them the whole time? AHHHHHH! Of course I can’t but how I wish I could. How bad would it look if anything was to happen, and mommy was inside buying booze?  But just real quick!

So here’s what I did…I parked out front and called to see if they had the wine, which they did. I explained the situation, that I have two sleeping babies in the car, but desperately needed the bottle of wine. I asked if we could do the transaction in the parking lot. It was no problem at all! I paid over the phone and 30 seconds later, voila! The sales girl came out to deliver my wine and I was on my way.

I think I am onto something for moms with sleeping kids in the car. I know we moms wish everything could be accomplished at a drive thru when you have sleeping munchkins. But you would be surprised at how much you can actually do without getting out of your car. People want your business; they will meet you half way. Or in my case, in the parking lot of a wine and spirits store. Convenient and classy! Who knows what they thought. I don’t care though, I got my gift and my kids got their rest. I got home and they were still sound asleep, so I got out my pump and got some bottles made. And here I am with my computer…sitting in the garage writing a blog. This is the most productive day I have ever had!  I think I’ll call my husband (from 3 feet away) and place an order for dinner. I mean, I can’t very well get out of the car and wake the kids to go inside, can I?  Nah. We are good here.
