Rainy days are here again. I love lying in bed listening to the sound of the rain on the roof, staying in my pajamas, drinking coffee, reading, watching movies, or catching up on DVR shows. Basically I think rainy days give people an excuse to be lazy and just relax. Oh wait. I have a 2 year old and a baby. Never mind. Scratch that. Scratch ALL OF THAT.

My husband works at 7am, so he is up and out before we all wake up. Curran, my 2 year old, wakes up at 7 on the dot and comes in to jump on the bed as usual, while I try my best to keep the baby from getting squashed. It’s pouring outside. I love it. As much as I long to stay in bed, I can’t. Time to get up and get started. It’s OK, though-I am excited to have a real bonding day with my little ones, and I have so many fun inside rainy day activities planned. Thankfully, none of them require me to change out of my pjs and Ugg Boots. I am ready. Here we go!

The events go something like this, with exactly zero breaks in between: Make breakfast, eat breakfast, turn on Sesame Street and feed the baby while Curran semi-watches it and runs back and forth across the couch. Baby goes down for a nap so I have lots of Curran time. We make muffins from scratch (HUGE mess), play with Legos, play-doh, trucks and trains for awhile, jump on the couch again, jump on the other couch, and eventually he just climbs on me and jumps on my back. It feels good. I turn on some music and we have a dance party. We do some coloring for about 3 minutes. He's over it. He plays toy drums, guitar and piano for a bit, but gets tired of that. He chases and tortures the cat for a bit, which is fun. He finally calms down and we read some books. Oh look! “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel” is on! He seems to like it (I’ll readily admit, so do I).  This is going to buy me an hour or two. Good thing because the baby is up.

Wow, exhale. I feel accomplished. We have done so much! We made it through the rainy day, and it was fine! Then I look at the clock. Good God, it is only 10 am. We have two hours 'til nap and we have exhausted every single thing there is to do in this house.  I got nuthin' left. I finally surrender my iPhone to Curran and just let him have at it. He's figured out most of the apps I have for him and can play them by himself. Pretty amazing. I am happy at how engaged he is, until I see that somehow he got onto Amazon.com and possibly purchased something. I have no idea what, but I guess we will find out in 5-7 business days.

After nap we will have the looooooong stretch of 5-6 hours til bedtime. I have no idea what we will come up with. Does "Alvin the Squeakquel" have a squeakquel? Pre-squeakquel? Is now a good time to introduce my son to the “Star Wars” saga? The 27 “Rocky” movies? Here’s the great thing about toddlers-we can just repeat everything we’ve done a few hundred more times until bath/bedtime (or til daddy gets home), which is my plan. It’s exhausting, yes, but on the bright side, I am already in my pajamas.
