Live Peace with Bowers Museum!

At Center for Living Peace, we strive to find new ways for people to connect with arts and culture through the programs that we offer to the community. When we appreciate world cultures and express ourselves creatively, we are ‘living peace.’ It is our pleasure to introduce you to a series of new classes with Bowers Museum. Bowers first opened in 1936 with a vision to "celebrate world cultures through their arts" with the hope that this will enrich the lives of others. Bowers has been voted "The Best Museum in Orange County" by the readers of The Orange County Register for 14 consecutive years. In the past 15 years, Bowers has produced more than 50 special exhibitions, many of which traveled nationally or internationally; and published more than 24 exhibition catalogues. It is because of this excellence, and their alignment with our arts & cultures pillar that we are proud to announce our new partnership with Bowers Museum!

Bowers Presents: Calavera Puppets & Masks

Our first event with Bowers Museum is this Saturday, October 22. We will be creating masks and puppets in honor of Day of the Dead. The Days of the Dead in Mexico are a time of remembrance and celebration of the lives of departed family members. Memorial altars are created with special foods, flowers, mementos and candles. Sometimes, a humorous piece of skeleton folk art will be placed on the ofrenda (altar) in order to keep Death distracted from the living. The masks are worn to celebrate the life of a deceased person and to remind everyone of the fragility of life. The skeleton puppets are twirled to make the puppet dance, and are decorated in bright colors to counteract the grey and blackness of death.
