The schedule said Knotts Berry Farm, so ignoring the fact that it was going to be one of the hottest days of the year, the Meekmas visited Knotts on Saturday, and although we sweat a lot, we had a really, really fun time.
The occasion was to try out the brand new Windseeker ride, which is a very high version of the old swings ride. Very high? Yes - 300 feet! Once I opened my eyes and took in the view I enjoyed Windseeker. Both girls and husband had no problems keeping their eyes open the entire ride, which didn't make any of us the least bit naseous.
Other rides have more speed and thrills, but what got me was the length of time you ere swinging around 300 feet in the air with your feet just dangling. Pretty cool.
Both of our girls are tall for their ages so we were able to go on almost any ride in the park. But meeting the height requirement is not the only reason to go on the ride - you have to want the thrill/experience. Maggie, our 7-year old, is prone to motion seekness, and she really impressed me but being OK with waiting for us while we tried out some other major thrill rides.
All 4 of us loved the Supreme Scream which takes you up nearly as high as Windseeker and then drops you in a freefall. You are actually dropping so fast that your butt floats up out of your seat. LOVED it!
Xcelerator is one that Maggie wisely skipped. You shoot out of the station at something like 100 miles an hour and speed up an insanely high tower, twist around and shoot back down. Fast and INSANE.
Jaguar is a rollercoaster for the entire family. No crazy thrills but really fun. We rode it twice.
And then there is Boomerang. Ooh, my head hurts just tying the name. This is a fast, looping coaster that was really fun going forwards. The trick here is that its a one-way track. You get to the end, stop and thendo the whole thing backwards. Backwards is not a good thing for me. Let's leave it that mom needed about 10 minutes to recover from that one.
The longest line of the day was for Bigfoot rapids - everyone in the park was hot and wanted to get wet. The line was long, but did move, andfor the first time I ever I really enjoyed getting splashed and soaked.
I also appreciated Knotts' selection of foods (not everything was fried - there were paninis!) at reasonable prices.
When we were leaving, I was glad we had checked out Knotts. Husband and I had only been one other time back when he was my boyfriend and I was still in my 20s.
Knotts is not where I would bring the littlest kids, unless you just want to go to Camp Snoopy, which is perfect for the 6 and under set. Wait until your kids are all at least 52" tall and want to go on thrill rides. Then you'll have a GOOOOOd time.
Full disclosure: Knotts invited me (and a ton of other So Cal media) to the park to try out Windseeker, at 8 a.m. before the park was open to the public. It was really cool!
