OC Parenting's Family of Publications
Mission Statement
The editors and Advisory board members of OC Parenting recognize the need to make a difference in the lives of children, and we are dedicated to empowering parents with information and resources they need to be the most effective parents they can be.
Our editorial focus is set on serving the time-starved parent with a combination of practical how-to information and a hand-picked calendar of family-focused events. And unlike many parenting magazines that fill their pages with nationally syndicated copy and no local focus, OC Parenting is community-focused from cover to cover. Orange County is home to some of the top research centers on the subjects of child development, education and family issues from such world-renown places as Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) and the UC Irvine Child Development Center, allowing the editors of Parenting to provide the most current parenting information available without leaving OC.
We are also committed to delivering a thoughtfully selected calendar of events and activities that is tot-tested, parent-friendly. Our goal is to help parents attain their goal: to nurture and raise and send out into the world a human being who can positively influence others and make a valuable contribution to our society
and to have a little family fun in the process.
Randall Tierney
Publisher/Editor-in-Chief
randall.tierney@parentingoc.com
Before taking the helm of Parenting OC magazine along with his wife and
friend Ann-Marie in February of 2004, Tierney was the Regional Manager of
the publication, along with L.A. Parent, Arizona Parenting and San Diego
Parent. Working as a journalist with several titles for over 20 years, he
has interviewed such notables as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Denzel Washington
and Tom Brokaw. As an editor, he led editorial teams at dailies, weeklies
and monthlies, earning such honors as The Littleford Award for Innovation,
Maggie Award for Best Essay and a Neal Award (considered the Pulitzer of the
Business Press). Tierney held editorial posts at Santa Barbara Magazine,
ISLANDS, American Film Magazine and The Hollywood Reporter. Prior to his
career in publishing, Tierney failed in several professions as a cowardly
firefighter, a seasick Alaskan salmon-boat deckhand and knock-kneed stage actor. He
attended UCLA, where he graduated with a B.A. in English. He enjoys writing
fiction, coaching youth sports and hiking the mountains of Southern
California with his 12-year-old son, Shane.

Ann-Marie Liggett
Associate Publisher/CFO
annmarie.tierney@parentingoc.com
When she’s not overseeing the business for Parenting Orange County Magazine, co-owner Ann-Marie enjoys being a mother to her “tween” son—and all that entails! Ann-Marie, a Huntington Beach native, is passionate about issues facing women in today’s world. She enjoys participating in and leading group studies focused on empowering women. Prior to the arrival of her son, Ann-Marie had a diverse career as a buyer for Fortune 500 companies. When she became a mom, she started her own home-based publishing services business working closely with film and television journalists on their book and magazine projects. Ann-Marie attended UCLA, where she studied political science and met her future husband and OCP co-owner Randy Tierney. The Tierneys have been married 20 years and round out their family to four with their Boston Terrier, Stella.
Jennifer Cho Salaff
Editor
jennifer.salaff@parentingoc.com
In every classroom, there’s the clown, rebel, cool guy or geek. When Jennifer was a kid, she was the class storyteller. Her love for a good yarn blossomed in the third grade, thanks to a fantastic teacher who encouraged her imagination. Some of her favorite works included “Murder on the Orient Express,” “The Missing Baby Kangaroo” and “Halloween in June.” (At 9-years-old, she was dead-set on channeling her inner-Nancy Drew!) While a student at UC Berkeley, Jennifer decided to turn her passion for writing into a profession. She moved to New York City to attend Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, just six weeks before Sept. 11. She covered City Hall, produced a radio documentary about Sudanese refugees, and teamed with a group of reporters on a piece called “Seven Days at Ground Zero,” which won first place in feature writing from the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies. Before joining Parenting OC magazine, Jennifer was a Features Writer at the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin.

Bahram Fattahinia
Art Director
bahram.fattahinia@parentingoc.com
After moving to Orange County at the age of three, Bahram has kept his feet firmly planted in its soil. After attending preschool through high school in Anaheim, and later pursuing collegiate studies in Fullerton, he has grown and changed along with his community. Beginning his design career at the age of 17, Bahram's first professional position came in the form of Lead Designer at a highly regarded software company based in Anaheim. He later moved on to work with a respected design firm, and then to a position as Creative Director at the nation's largest direct mail advertising corporation. At age 27, he is currently enjoying his position serving as Art Director for OC Parenting. In his spare time, Bahram is an avid music maker and record collector.
Charity Farrell
Sales Manager
charity.farrell@parentingoc.com
Born and raised in California, Charity has lived the majority of her life in Orange County. She and her husband are proud parents to their 3 year-old son—he keeps them laughing and very busy! Charity was a reader of OC Parenting long before she became an employee. In fact, it was while reading the October 2004 issue that Charity happened upon an ad requesting Account Executives for the magazine. After being a stay-at-home mom for 18 months, she joined OC Parenting as an Account Executive and was quickly promoted to Sales Manager. Charity brings more than 15 years of sales, advertising, marketing and event planning experience to the OC Parenting family. She also enjoys reading, volunteering at her church, scrapbooking and camping with her family.
